Fine Air Flight 101

The findings of the crash of Fine Air 101 are now history. We believe that the FAA, with proper intervention, could have prevented this senseless loss of life. The circumstances which caused the crash began with a plane which was approximately 6,000 lbs. over the allowed cargo weight limit and ended with the unsecured pallets shifting during takeoff. This is the kind of abuse and neglect of safety standards that run rampant in the air cargo industry. As American civilians we see air cargo planes fly from, and over, every state in the union, every day of the year. The death of a civilian on the ground shows that reforms must be enacted immediately. There are so many new air cargo carriers starting up, flying on a shoestring, with no regard for human life either in the air or for civilians on the ground.

Many air cargo planes are habitually overloaded, some carrying mislabeled hazardous materials that are improperly handled and loaded. The profit and loss statement is what they are interested in, not proper training and good maintenance of their planes. Granted, there are some good carriers out their, but what safety regulations exist are not strictly enforced.

If we can force Senators, Congressmen and Representatives to take a closer look at current regulatory and enforcement practices in the airline and air cargo industries we will be able to affect real change in the systems that oversee and enforce safety within these industries.

We are now in the 21st century and air travel and air cargo trade will increase almost ten-fold over the next decade. We believe that the FAA should not be called and labeled "the tombstone agency", they should become the agency they were set up to be and to act before an accident occurs. We need legislation and laws to be put into effect to better monitor the FAA and its enforcement of regulations, putting safety above everything else. Some things are so precious, so sacred, so life-sustaining and important that we can not leave these things unintended, unguarded, and unexamined in the hands of government. Specifically, the lives of our children, yourself, my life, and the lives of all those we love. We cannot trust things so important to the government, because government forgets. You do not!

Pilots wherever you are, report inconsistencies, poor maintenance, improper loading, mislabeling and overweight cargo limits to the FAA and refuse to fly. Remember that it's your life and others that are at risk. Also, send us your e-mails. "We care" and we'll help you to get the proper assistance. Whatever it takes we'll be there for you in our thoughts and prayers.

Remember fly safe!

* E-mail the FAA, NTSB, and your government representatives to enforce safety standards and to make sure the FAA monitors the existing regulations that are in place to protect us. Let's learn from Fine Air flight 101, Emery Air flight 17 and all the other air cargo and airplanes that have gone down before them needlessly!
